Common name: Forkbeard, Abrótea, Brazilian Codling.

Description: Body elongated and compressed scaleless head with chin depressed in the jaw. Two dorsal fins, first dorsal introduces the first radio elongated with a length greater than head length. The pelvic fin consists of a rudimentary radio with a length greater than one third of the body. Anal fin almost reaches the tail. Caudal fin rounded stem. Separate sexes without sexual dimorphism and external fertilization. Average length 30 cm.

Color: dark brown on the back and white on the belly.
